Cargo that is hazardous to people, property, or the environment and must be packed, labelled, and declared under special rules.

Also called hazmat or hazardous cargo. Classified into nine classes by the UN. Needs a DG declaration, correct packaging, labels, and an MSDS. Carriers accept DG only with prior approval and usually charge a surcharge. Undeclared DG is a criminal offence in most countries.
