In practice
Now formally called an SDS (Safety Data Sheet) under the GHS standard, but freight staff still say MSDS. Section 14 gives the transport classification: UN number, class, packing group, and proper shipping name. Carriers and airlines require it to accept anything that could be hazardous, and often for non-hazardous chemicals, batteries, and liquids to prove they are safe.
